The Trial

Three months had passed and Lucia was nearing the end of her eighth month and wondering when this pregnancy would be over. Her son was giving her a run for her money and wasn’t letting up. She was trying to get ready for the last baby shower her family had planned for her in Hampton. This would be the fourth and final as her little condo wasn’t big enough for all of the things she already had.

She felt too big for the condo now. But the movers were coming in three days to pack up the place so that they could all be in their new home and settled before the baby came.

Lucia and Maxwell were married six weeks ago after his divorce was final in a small and intimate ceremony on The Spirit of Norfolk. It was just her family and co- workers that they knew well. Lucia was a little uneasy since the wedding when a mysterious floral arrangement showed up minutes before the ceremony.

No one knew about the wedding except for those in attendance and they all knew she hated roses. That’s why there were none at the wedding. Her bouquet was filled with Gerbera daisies and the aisles were draped in baby’s breath. Someone was messing with them and she didn’t want Maxwell to know anything.

She wore an empire waist Faviana by David Tutera gown that she saw online and fell in love with. She wore a simple up do with baby’s breath along her temple and no veil.

Her attendants were her sister and Sheena. Maxwell’s father and uncle stood up for him. His step brother was nowhere to be found. All of her work colleagues were there. Jimmy had even begun dating a beautiful woman named Naatii.

When Lucia saw the tall beauty with deep chocolate skin and light brown eyes, she really started to relax. But she didn’t relax fully because of those flowers.

She had been receiving them for weeks after she announced her engagement. Roses always reminded her of her father’s death and she didn’t want to see them at all during her wedding. Anyone who knew her knew this about her. Roses equated death in her eyes and she didn’t want that reminder during her big day.

So she pushed it to the back of her mind and proceeded to enjoy her wedding. The food was excellent and the cake was divine. It was a four tiered white chocolate confection with a lemon curd filling. The cake was also draped with edible diamonds. They had a live band instead of a DJ and danced the night away off the Chesapeake Bay.

She also had been in regular attendance at a new church, In God We Trust Ministries in Suffolk. She loved it there because it was small and seemed very family oriented. She found them by accident and had been drawn in by Bishop Mann’s word. She could feel that he lived by his word, so she and Maxwell had become members.

She was snapped
